SERP Comparison Matrix

The SERP Comparison Matrix provides a visual grid showing where you and your competitors rank for each tracked keyword. Quickly identify gaps, threats, and opportunities across your keyword landscape.

Accessing the Matrix

Find the SERP Matrix by:

  1. Navigating to Competitors in the sidebar
  2. Clicking the SERP Matrix tab

Understanding the Grid

The matrix displays:

  • Rows - Your tracked keywords
  • Columns - You and your competitors
  • Cells - Ranking position (1-100 or blank if not ranking)
  • Colors - Green for top 3, yellow for 4-10, gray for 11+

Position Indicators

Each cell shows:

  • Current ranking position number
  • Arrow indicating change (up, down, or stable)
  • Color coding for quick scanning
  • "Ads" badge if running paid ads

Sorting and Filtering

Customize your view:

  • Sort by keyword - Alphabetical or by search volume
  • Sort by position - Your best or worst rankings first
  • Filter by gap - Show only keywords where competitors outrank you
  • Filter by position range - Focus on page 1, page 2, etc.

Identifying Opportunities

Use the matrix to find:

  • Quick wins - Keywords where you rank 4-10 and can push to top 3
  • Gaps - Keywords where competitors rank but you do not
  • Threats - Keywords where competitors are gaining on you
  • Wins - Keywords where you outrank all competitors

Gap Analysis View

Toggle to Gap Analysis mode to see:

  • Keywords where at least one competitor ranks in top 10
  • Your position vs. the best competitor position
  • Estimated traffic you are missing
  • Difficulty score for closing the gap

Historical Comparison

Compare positions over time:

  • Select a comparison date
  • See position changes since that date
  • Identify trending improvements or declines
  • Track the impact of SEO efforts

Exporting the Matrix

Export options include:

  • CSV download with all position data
  • PDF report with visual matrix
  • Scheduled email reports

Best Practices

  • Review the matrix weekly to catch changes early
  • Focus on keywords with high volume and close positions
  • Use gap analysis to prioritize content creation
  • Track position changes after SEO updates
